Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) – Your Trusted Power Distribution Company

The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) was established on March 22, 1998 for the purpose of restructuring the Pakistan’s power sector.  It emerged from the Lahore Area Electricity Board under the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and was transformed into an independent electricity distribution company.

LESCO operates under the regulatory framework of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and is responsible for providing efficient and reliable power distribution across Lahore and its surrounding regions.  With a vast network of transmission lines, substations and a dedicated workforce, LESCO Bill Online plays a vital role in powering the economic and social development of the region.

WAPDA – Powering Pakistan Since 1958

In the early days, electricity supply in Pakistan was managed by various public and private agencies across different regions.  To bring a unified and coordinated approach to water and power development, the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) was established in 1958 under the WAPDA Act.

Area Electricity Board Lahore

Before LESCO, electricity distribution was managed by different WAPDA regions.  In 1982, the Area Electricity Board (AEB) Lahore was formed as one of eight AEBs in Pakistan.  This initiative aimed to provide greater autonomy and representation to provincial governments, elected officials, industrialists and agriculturalists in decision making.

LESCO – Lahore Electric Supply Company

The global power industry has shifted from monopoly to privatization, leading to major restructuring in Pakistan’s power sector.  As part of the 1994 Strategic Plan, WAPDA’s power wing was divided into 12 companies for generation, transmission and distribution.  On March 22, 1998, the Lahore Area Electricity Board was transformed into the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) to promote commercialization and eventually privatization.
